Homespun launch ‘Fragments’, the long-awaited brief for their fourth talent nurturing film competition
Following growing success from its breakthrough show in 2014, Homespun and Stitch are proud to announce the latest brief and call for entries for Homespun Yarns' fourth successive year.
This year’s brief is ‘Fragments’. Stories begin as fragments: moments, pictures and experiences that grow, intertwine and develop into fully-formed narratives. For 2017, Homespun are supplying those fragments as the basis for submissions. In partnership with stock footage company Pond5, they will be providing entrants with 8 carefully selected film clips that are starting points that are meant to be interpreted freely. The task for entrants is to creatively interpret one or more of the ‘threads’ as a basis for their short film idea.
Speaking at the launch of the 2017 brief at the APA’s Craftworks, London, Senior Editor and Partner at Stitch, Tim Hardy comments: “The aim of this competition has always been to provide a platform for the best creative work. We’re delighted at the success our entrants have had since the first show four years ago. We’ve had everyone from established directors to those who had little to no directing experience before entering the competition. Many have since gone on to do what they love; making films, full time – and winning awards whilst they’re at it! Our goal at Homespun has always been to nurture and grow talent, not only within our own company but wherever it may hail from. We’re really excited to see what ideas ‘fragments’ will inspire this year.”
Entrants have until 11:59pm on 28th April 2017 to submit. Three winning ideas will be shortlisted and Homespun will provide £1,500 funding to make each film a reality, as well as providing complimentary editing and support where needed.
The shortlist will be announced in June following in-house judging from the entire Homespun team. The awards night will take place in October when the final three films will be judged by the audience and Homespun’s panel. The overall winning film will also receive a £500 cash prize.
