Trio of TV Christmas Crackers for Lola Post Production

18 December 2017

Lola Post Production is excited to announce their involvement in a hat trick of the most anticipated programmes scheduled to air over the Christmas period; Little Women (BBC One), Grandpa’s Great Escape (BBC One) and Ratburger (Sky One).

For Playground TV’s lavish three-part adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, Lola created around 80 VFX shots and were delighted to be the main vendor for the re-imaging of this classic novel.

The Lola team created over 50 shots for Grandpa’s Great Escape. Based on an original book by David Walliams and produced by King Bert, it’s the story of Grandpa, a World War II flying ace, who now suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and is moved to an old people’s home called Twilight Towers, run by Miss Dandy. Lola’s Tim Zaccheo created an entirely CG landscape, sky and planes (and avatars of the characters) in Houdini and Terragen and Chris Glew and Desi Valcheva comped the green screen cockpit shots of Grandpa and Jack as they’re pursued by RAF jet fighters.

Another King Bert production and David Walliam’s adaptation is Ratburger and Lola completed more than 100 shots for this hilariously gruesome story.

Starring David Walliams, alongside a fabulous cast, including, BAFTA TV Award-winning actress** Sheridan Smith**, Ratburger follows a young girl called Zoe, who befriends a baby rat and names him Armitage.

He’s no ordinary rat – he’s a rat that can dance and that’s where Lola came in, they built a photo-real CG dancing rat to take over from the on-set Armitage and to perform the more dangerous stunts. Lola’s animation team (headed by Helen Bucknall) produced spectacular dancing rat action for this Sky One Christmas Eve treat.

This seasonal VFX bonanza is the result of a hugely successful year for Lola. Creative Director & Owner, Rob Harvey comments, “Over the past few years we’ve worked on some of the most high profile TV shows and to have provided VFX for not one, but three of the biggest show to air over the festive period is a real testament to the level of our VFX and talent of our artists and supervisors. Bring on 2018!”

Little Women airs from Boxing Day on BBC One.
Grandpa’s Great Escape airs from New Year’s Day on BBC One.
Ratburger airs from Christmas Eve on Sky One.
