World Child Cancer ‘The Big C’

05 April 2016

‘The Big C’ is a new brand film for World Child Cancer, the international children’s cancer charity. The 30” film raises awareness of the inequalities in childhood cancer survival rates in lower income countries compared to those in higher income countries. Directed by Steve Cope through 2AM.

In this simple, yet powerful idea, two children from different backgrounds play with the same wooden blocks. What starts as a little ‘c’ block in the hands of a small girl in the UK, tumbles away, growing bigger and bigger as it makes it’s journey, transforming into an enormous and threatening big ‘C’ block as it crashes into a room in Bangladesh. It’s a striking metaphor to illustrate the fact that in the UK, a child diagnosed with cancer has an 80% chance of survival versus only a 10% chance in Bangladesh. It is this disparity in treatment and care that World Child Cancer works to address.
